Volunteer Spotlight

Haru Cartwright - Audit Officer

Haru started her career with Broadway in 1999 at our DeZavala Banking Center. She has also worked as BSM for our Leon Springs Banking Center. She is currently an Audit Officer and is responsible for performing financial, operational, and regulatory compliance audits. Her office is in the Cheever Building on the second floor.

We recently asked Haru about her volunteer experience and this is what she had to say.

Mr. Z: What motivates you to volunteer?
Haru: Knowing that what I have done has made a positive impact in at least one person’s life.

Mr. Z: I understand you do quite a bit for JDRF, tell me about that.
Haru: For the past 4 four years I have assisted JDRF in organizing their Accounting Room for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.  This year, they formalized the process more and asked me to serve as their Accounting Chair for the 2007 Walk.  It’s been quite an experience being involved with JDRF.

Mr. Z: You are also very active in the Broadway Bank Care Corps. Do you have a favorite event?
Haru: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation events (Kids Gala, Gala, and the walk). Everyone within the organization, from the staff, board, all the way down to the kids who are afflicted with the disease, is always so appreciative of the support.  It’s great to see their excitement knowing that you are there because you care about helping to find a cure during their lifetime.

Mr. Z: What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering for the first time?
Haru: Give me a call.  Broadway has done a great job of finding a variety of worthwhile organizations/events to support.  There is bound to be one that appeals to you.  I’ll help guide you through your options and find the perfect fit.  And if you’re nervous, chances are I can volunteer with you.  Also, it will be extremely rewarding and you’ll have fun working side by side with other outstanding Broadway Bankers.

Mr. Z: We consider you a great role-model for the Broadway Bank Care Corps, what do you think about that?
Haru: I am honored.  For me, volunteering encompasses the “Pay it Forward” mentality.  You hope the acts of kindness that you make whether it is volunteering your time, knowledge, etc will inspire others to do the same.  I am grateful for all my fellow Broadway Bankers who answer my calls to volunteer with me and are always willing to lend a hand.  Having such a great support group makes it all that much easier to get involved and help make a difference in our community.
